On 17th October 2026, we visited NJV Government Higher Secondary School in Karachi, Pakistan, to conduct an introductory session on Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) for approximately 50 students from Classes 6 to 10.
The session introduced students to the fascinating world of ham radio, explaining how it works, the different modes of communication, and its importance in today’s interconnected world. Special emphasis was placed on the vital role of amateur radio in emergency and disaster situations, particularly when conventional communication networks become unavailable.
Students were introduced to the ways amateur radio operators communicate across cities and countries, explore radio technology, and provide essential communication support during natural disasters, search and rescue operations, and humanitarian emergencies. The session also highlighted how ham radio promotes technical learning, experimentation, problem-solving, and a spirit of public service among young people.
It was truly encouraging to interact with so many young students and witness their curiosity about radio communication and its practical applications. Introducing the younger generation to amateur radio is an important step towards nurturing future radio amateurs and raising awareness about the value of independent and reliable communication.
Amateur radio is much more than a hobby; it is a platform for learning, global friendship, technical innovation, and service to the community.
Looking forward to conducting more educational sessions and inspiring the next generation of amateur radio enthusiasts in Pakistan!
