PARS Delivers Radio Etiquette & Emergency Communications Training to Deaf Reach Leadership

Building Reliable Communications for Critical Situations

Effective communication is not measured by how much we speak, but by how clearly critical information reaches the right people at the right time.

On 29 July 2026, during the Deaf Reach Annual Workshop 2026 held in Tando Allahyar, Sindh, the Pakistan Amateur Radio Society (PARS) conducted a specialized Radio Etiquette and Emergency Communications Training session for Deaf Reach leadership, managers, principals, administrative staff and operational teams.

The session was led online by Asad Ullah Marwat (AP2AUM), Vice President of PARS, and focused on professional radio communication skills, emergency coordination procedures and modern amateur radio technologies that can support communication when conventional systems fail.

Participants gained practical knowledge that can strengthen operational coordination, improve decision-making during emergencies and increase organizational resilience through reliable communication systems.

Key Training Outcomes

The training programme combined communication theory with practical demonstrations designed to help Deaf Reach leadership understand how emergency communications operate during real-world incidents.

Participants were introduced to:

  • Professional Radio Etiquette
  • Emergency Communication Procedures
  • Hands-on Radio Operation
  • Portable Communication Systems
  • Antenna Fundamentals
  • Radio Discipline
  • Team Communication Exercises
  • Field Deployment Demonstrations

The objective was to equip leadership teams with communication skills that remain effective when conventional telephone, internet or power infrastructure becomes unavailable.

What Participants Learned

Six practical skills formed the backbone of the training day.

Professional Radio Etiquette

Understanding correct radio procedures, call discipline and clear communication techniques for professional operations.

Emergency Communication Procedures

Learning structured communication methods used during disasters, outages and emergency response situations.

Portable Communication Systems

Introduction to deployable communication solutions that can operate independently of traditional infrastructure.

Antenna Fundamentals

Understanding antenna types, installation considerations and their role in communication performance.

Radio Discipline

Maintaining concise, accurate and organized communications during routine and emergency operations.

Team Communication Exercises

Practical exercises designed to improve coordination between leadership, administration and operational teams.

Highlights from the Field Demonstration

Three moments that defined the afternoon in the field.

01

Yagi Antenna & Long-Distance Communications

An 8-element Yagi antenna was installed and successfully tested by making contact with the PARS Karachi Repeater at a distance of approximately 178 kilometres, demonstrating the capability of amateur radio systems to support wide-area communications.

02

SWR & Power Meter Demonstration

An SWR and Power Meter was installed to demonstrate how antenna performance and transmitter output power are measured and evaluated in practical radio operations.

03

Running a Station Without the Grid

A solar panel, a battery bank and a low power transceiver were used to keep a station operational through the afternoon. Participants measured current draw, planned duty cycles, and learned how to extend station endurance during a prolonged emergency.
